Chelsea on verge of snapping up Atletico ace

Chelsea look set to seal a deal for Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis, with reports from AS indicating that the Brazilian has rejected a new contract offer and is holding out for a switch to the Blues.

Diego Costa is considered to be Jose Mourinho’s top target from the La Liga champions, but their left-sided defender has also caught his eye.

The striker is thought to have all but sealed a £30m-£35m transfer to Stamford Bridge, and now it appears that Luis will follow him.

The four-time Brazilian international starred for Atleti as they ran to the Champions League Final last weekend, impressing against Chelsea along the way.

With Ashley Cole having been released, Mourinho is known to be in the market for a replacement, and is looking at Luis.

With David Luiz due to complete a £50m switch to PSG in the coming days ‘The Special One’ has the funds in place to pursue a swoop, and is thought to be ready to part with £16m to get the 28-year-old.

Atletico are desperate to keep their man as they fight off interest in a host of their stars, but realistically they cannot compete with the wages on offer in west London.
