Chelsea owner backs £40m England star bid relaunch

Chelsea are set to relaunch their £40m mission to land Everton star John Stones, according to the Daily Express.

The Blues failed with three bids over the summer to land the 21-year old, as the Toffees stood firm and refused to sell their highly rated centre-back.

However, the report suggests that under fire manager Jose Mourinho has the full backing of Roman Abramovich in order to finally seal the deal.

The Russian tycoon is said to agree with Mourinho that the England international could be pivotal in digging the club out of the hole they find themselves in after a nightmare season so far.

Despite winning the title last year, the club linger just a point above the relegation zone after EIGHT losses already this term.

While relegation is not a realistic notion, the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan coach faces a real struggle to even finish in the top four.

Now, the 52-year old could be set to slap a £40m bid for the former Barnsley youngster as soon as the transfer window opens in the New Year.

It is thought the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ believes another bid could entice the player to force a move away from Merseyside himself.
