Chelsea owner wants to give captain the boot

Chelsea captain John Terry

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to ask his new manager to make David Luiz the club captain, replacing John Terry, according to the Daily Star.

Terry has been the Blues skipper for over five years now but has played a bit-part this season leaving Abramovich with no hesitation but to remove the armband from him.

The former England defender has another year at Chelsea but that is set to be his last as the Russian owner wants to turf out the long serving players and replace them with younger stars that will take Chelsea to the next level.

Blues vice-captain Frank Lampard is set to leave this summer and Ashley Cole has just one year to run down on his deal along with Terry.

The Chelsea fans may not take too well to Terry being stripped of the captaincy and the owner making on-field decisions that should be made by the manager and players, but a better return in the Premier League or Europe next season could make them soon forget the old guard.
