Chelsea plan move for highly-rated Everton ace

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is contemplating making a move for Everton’s England international defender John Stones, according to the Sunday Express.

Stones is currently with the England Under 21s at the European Championships in the Czech Republic and has been targeted by Mourinho as he looks to strengthen his side ahead of a title defence next season.

Having impressed for the Toffees last season, Stones is understood to be highly rated within Stamford Bridge and securing his signature would also go some way to help the Blues meet the required Premier League quota of homegrown players.

Stones has emerged as a key part of Everton manager Roberto Martinez’s first-team plans at Goodison Park since joining the club for £3 million from Barnsley in January 2013.

While Everton are highly reluctant to offload one of their brightest prospects, a bid in the region of £15 million might be enough to convince the club to sell as they look to bolster their own squad in the coming months.
