Chelsea planning to offer contract extension

John Terry (Chelsea)Chelsea are planning to offer John Terry a contract extension, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The 32-year-old struggled for game time last term under Rafael Benitez, leading to rumours that his Stamford Bridge career may be nearing its end.

However, the Blues’ skipper has once again become a vital cog in the first-team since Jose Mourinho’s arrival, with ‘The Special One’ known to be a huge fan of the England international’s never-say-die playing style.

As a result, the Portuguese coach is ready to offer the experienced centre-back a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

Terry has featured in every Premier League game so far this term and netted a vital goal against Tottenham on Sunday to secure a point for his side.

Chelsea left it late before extending Frank Lampard’s deal at the club last season, but it is expected that they won’t adopt the same approach with the defender.

Terry was linked with a summer move away from London, with Monaco believed to have been interested.

The French side were willing to offer him a tax-free £150,000-per-week contract, while some sides from China were also keen.
