Chelsea are denying the significance of a mistake by the club’s TV channel which indicated that Frank Lampard is definitely on his way.
A programme called the ‘Best of Lampard’ included a description claiming to showcase “the most exciting action from the former Blues midfielder.”
However, club officials have moved quickly to distance themselves from the error, even though his future with the Champions League holders still remains clouded in mystery.
They say the ‘former midfielder’ label was not of their own making, stating that host company Sky Sports are responsible for designing and creating graphics on the club’s in-house channel and that nothing more should be read into the blunder.
Chelsea appear reluctant to offer the 34-year-old a new contract due to his age, despite his supreme goalscoring ability which has seen him score over 200 goals for the club since joining them in 2001.
Lampard’s existing deal is up at the end of this season and a summer exit, potentially to MLS side LA Galaxy, could be on the cards after he was reported to have gone house-hunting in California.
