Chelsea plotting £30m swoop

Luke Shaw (Southampton)Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to launch a £30m swoop for Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, according to reports from The Express.

The 18-year-old has quickly emerged as one of the Premier League’s finest talents, and is already a key member of the Saints’ starting XI despite his youthful age.

His consistent displays have alerted a number of the division’s top sides, with Chelsea thought to be particularly keen.

Mourinho is growing increasingly concerned by Ashley Cole’s form and fitness, and is keen to land an alternative to the England international.

Shaw is thought to be his top target, and he is ready to break the record fee for an English teenager – currently held by Manchester United who paid £27m for Wayne Rooney in 2004 – with a £30m offer.

Shaw has previously indicated that he is happy to stay at St Mary’s Stadium, but he is known to be a Chelsea supporter, which could tempt him to make a huge move.

The South Coast club recently tied the defender down to a five-year contract, but they may be willing to sell if a massive offer is received in the New Year.

Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the skilful left-back.

Can Chelsea lure Luke Shaw away from Southampton? Is he really worth £30m?
