Chelsea ponder £5m striker swoop

Samuel Eto'o (Anzhi Makhachkala)

Chelsea are considering making a £5million bid for Samuel Eto’o, according to the Guardian.

The Blues have all but conceded defeat in their pursuit of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, and will soon turn their attention to the Cameroon forward.

Eto’o has been made available by Anzhi Makhachkala after the club were hit by a financial crisis, and joined all of his teammates on the transfer list. The 32-year-old, who has won three Champions League titles, could be available for just £5million.

Mourinho has worked with Eto’o during his short spell at Inter Milan, where they beat Bayern Munich to lift European football’s top honour. But the Portuguese manager was interested in signing Eto’o during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, only for the striker to move to Barcelona instead.

Chelsea had been confident that they would sign the unsettled Rooney, but have lost faith due to United’s repeated reiteration that the English forward is not for sale.

But despite having Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba at his disposal, Mourinho wants to add to his strike force, and looks set to turn to the Cameroon forward, who has already scored twice in four matches for Anzhi this season.

Mourinho will have to turn his attention on to Chelsea’s first match of the new season, against Hull on Sunday.

Would Eto’o be a good signing? Do Blues fans want to see the forward in a Chelsea shirt?
