Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is refusing to give up on signing Wayne Rooney from Manchester United this summer, and is set to go back with a third official bid for the striker, according to talkSPORT.
Chelsea have already had two offers for the England man rejected by the Premier League champions, with the latest of which said to be rejected ‘out of hand.’
But the Blues are not ready to give up on signing the 27-year-old, with sources revealing the potential transfer is an ‘ongoing process.’
Rooney has made no secret of his desire to leave Old Trafford, telling former manager Sir Alex Ferguson he wanted a transfer before the end of last season.
The forward is understood to have become frustrated with playing second fiddle to Robin van Persie at Old Trafford, and has been angered by new manager David Moyes being unable to guarantee him first team football this season.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to land the England striker, revealing last month he saw Rooney as his only transfer target this summer.
Rooney is understood to be excited by the prospect of linking up with Mourinho, and is waiting to see whether the third offer will prove successful, before taking the option of launching an official transfer request.
Rooney has pulled out of the club’s latest pre-season friendly, and did not travel with the squad for their fixture with AIK Stockholm on Wednesday night, although the club insist this is down to a shoulder problem.
