Chelsea ready to axe midfield star

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to sell Ramires in January if a suitable replacement can be found, according to reports from Goal.

The Brazilian ace has been one of the Blues’ star performers in recent seasons, but the emergence of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas as the club’s first choice midfield pairing has seen his chances reduced this term.

Real Madrid are rumoured to be watching the energetic 27-year-old closely, and Mourinho is open to a deal for a reasonable price if he is allowed to bring in a fresh face.

Ramires has started just three times so far in 2014/15, but the Spaniards are still thought to be ready to pay upwards of £20m for him, with Carlo Ancelotti a big fan of the industrious South American.

Mourinho has shown a ruthlessness with unwanted stars, selling the likes of David Luiz, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba, among others, since his return to Stamford Bridge, while allowing Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole to see out their contracts.

Ramires arrived in London in 2010, and could be open to a big move to get his career back on track.
