Chelsea are confident of snapping up Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and are ready to hand him a contract worth £75,000-per-week to swap the Britannia Stadium for Stamford Bridge, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.
With Petr Cech having officially joined bitter rivals Arsenal in, perhaps, the most noteworthy transfer of the window so far, the Blues are short of options to cover Thibaut Courtois.
Although the Belgian impressed in his first full campaign at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho needs a top-quality stand-in, with possible injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion set to stretch his options in 2015/16.
Reports suggest that Begovic is the player the club want, and a contract worth around £75,000-per-week is in place for the Bosnian.
It’s hoped that such a lucrative salary will persuade the ex-Portsmouth man to sacrifice guaranteed playing time, while promises of matching Cech’s 16 outings last term may be made.
