Chelsea ready to obliterate Everton’s transfer plans with swoop for marquee target

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Chelsea are considering a swoop for Everton transfer target Axel Witsel.

The 27-year-old signed for Zenit St. Petersburg at the incredible cost of €40million back in 2012 but after four seasons at the Russian club looks set to leave this summer.

The Belgium international is currently showcasing his abilities at Euro 2016 and has been heavily linked with a move to Everton ahead of the summer window.

The Toffees view the physical midfielder as a long-term successor to ageing enforcer Gareth Barry – and he’s seen as the kind signing that would mark a real statement of intent at the start of Ronald Koeman’s reign over Goodison Park.

But late interest from Chelsea could scupper the Toffees’ hopes of signing the 69-cap international, with The Daily Mail claiming he’s being discussed as a potential transfer target at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are reportedly considering turning to Witsel should they miss out on countryman Radja Nainggolan, having already seen a series of bids turned down by Roma.
