Chelsea ready to splash £30m on striker

Jose MourinhoChelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to test new Manchester United manager David Moyes’ resolve with a new £30million bid for Wayne Rooney, according to the Daily Mail.

It is widely known that Rooney is unsettled at Old Trafford is and is unwilling to spend another season playing second fiddle to talisman Robin van Persie in Lancashire. Chelsea have previously had a bid of around £25million turned down by United last week. Since then, Mourinho has gone on to tell the media it is Rooney or no one else as far as who will be joining Chelsea in this transfer window.

Adding further fuel to the fire, Mourinho involved Roy Hodgson in the debacle saying he would be worried in his position if Rooney isn’t guaranteed first team football at Old Trafford next season. Despite Mourinho’s rhetoric, the United hierarchy, none more so than David Moyes, have insisted that Rooney will be a Red Devil in September regardless of what bids they receive from other teams.

Sportsmail claim that Chelsea are more than happy to match Rooney’s current £240,000 a week wages to seal a deal and will hand him a five-year contract to tie him down to life at Stamford Bridge. Rooney is currently in England away from the Manchester United squad in Japan as he nurses a hamstring injury.

Sources say Rooney would jump at the chance to join Chelsea.

United fans should you get rid? Is he the right man for Chelsea?
