Chelsea ready to turn to Colombian ace

Jackson MartinezChelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ready to turn his attention to Porto’s Jackson Martinez, if his move for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney ends in disappointment, according to reports from The Metro.

The Blues chief has made the England international his top target, and is hopeful that he can force through a move before the transfer window closes.

Mourinho is known to be desperate to bring in a top level striker, with Fernando Torres and Demba Ba having failed to convince him of their abilities and Romelu Lukaku lacking experience at the top level.

But, with United maintaining their status that ‘Wazza’ is not for sale, ‘The Special One’ may well have to look to alternatives.

He may look to raid his former club Porto – with whom he won the Champions League in 2004 – for Martinez.

The Colombian is one of the most sought after forwards in European football having hit a whopping 29 goals in 38 appearances for the Portuguese champions.

Porto are, understandably, far from keen to see their talismanic front-man, and are set to demand £30m – a figure that would trigger a release clause in his contract – for his signature.

But, Mourinho is hopeful that his connections with the club may allow him to secure an agreement for a lower figure.

Would Jackson Martinez be a better option than Wayne Rooney?
