Chelsea ready to use home-grown prodigy as makeweight in £28m Nainggolan transfer

According to reports from The Express, Chelsea could use Andreas Christensen or Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a makeweight in a transfer deal to bring Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The tough-tackling Belgium international has been consistently linked with a move to west London since Antonio Conte was announced as their next manager earlier this month.

But the two clubs are still some way apart on their valuations. Roma are demanding £36million for the 27-year-old, whose contract doesn’t expire until 2020, whilst Chelsea rate him at just £28million.

And according to The Express – who cite Italian publication Il Tempo – the Blues are attempting to sweeten the deal by offering one of the club’s exciting youngster’s in exchange.

The player-plus-cash transfer could include promising midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who would be a direct replacement for Nainggolan, or highly-rated defender Andreas Christensen.

Loftus-Cheek has started Chelsea’s last two Premier League fixtures, scoring against Aston Villa, whilst Christensen has become a mainstay in the Gladbach starting Xi since signing on loan last summer.
