As reported by The Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to spend big in January and land a long-term target in the form of Germany international Niklas Sule.
We discussed last month that Chelsea were still interested in the young Hoffenheim centre-back and that’s proving true with the latest reports suggesting a firm bid is in the offing.
The Mail reckon Chelsea are going to follow up a £20m bid in the summer with a £30m January bid that’s expected to finally bring the monolithic defender to Stamford Bridge.
It’d be a big boost to their title bid despite laying waste to all in their path so far this season.
However, they could face competition with AC Milan and Liverpool also reportedly interested in the defender.
Sule already plays in a 3-man system at the back for Hoffenheim and would have no problem settling into a similar role under Conte.
The ability to hit the ground running and make that transition without incident would be a key factor for any signing made halfway through the season, with no time for learning.
He also won his first international cap earlier this year and was also part of the U23 German side that won the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
At just 21 he could potentially be a star defender on the club and international scene for the next 10 years at least.
On those terms £30m could end up proving to be a bargain.
