It’s hard to know what to dislike most about this Chelsea saga

There was perhaps an ‘oddest moment of the season’ candidate over the weekend as Chelsea’s medical staff were cheered onto the pitch at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. Stand-ins Chris Hughes and Steven Hughes rushed onto the turf in the first half to treat Gary Cahill, and with the whole Eva Carneiro saga still bubbling away the home supporters seized the opportunity to mock their rivals.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past week or so, Carneiro is the Blues’ ‘disgraced’ club doctor who had the temerity to rush onto the pitch to treat Eden Hazard’s head injury against Swansea. Abhorrent behaviour. Jose Mourinho, desperately looking for any distraction from his side’s lifeless showing in the 2-2 draw, blamed her for temporarily reducing his team to nine men (Thibaut Courtois had already been sent off), and she has been duly axed from first-team duties.

Since then Carneiro’s ex-boyfriend, Rupert Patterson-Ward, has revealed details about their personal lives, and the saga has now been given the ugly tabloid treatment. What a shame. Our very own Marcus Speller has been looking at matters through the reaction on social media and you can see what he thinks in the video below.
