Chelsea saw dramatic late deadline day deal fall through

Chelsea flop Radamel Falcao’s potential deadline day loan move back to Atletico Madrid collapsed as a deal could not be agreed before the transfer cut-off, according to reports from ESPN.

The Colombia international is currently due to end the season at Stamford Bridge, but the London club were eager to terminate their agreement with Monaco early, with the 29-year-old having struggled this season.

Falcao has netted just one goal since his Chelsea arrival, and with Alexandre Pato having signed for the club on loan he appears to be fourth choice under Guus Hiddink, behind the aforementioned Brazilian, Diego Costa and Loic Remy.

Links with a move to Chinese Super League outfit Jiangsu Suning did the rounds before late speculation suggested that the South American could make a shock move back to La Liga to join Atletico, but reports claim that a deal could not be done before Monday night’s 11pm deadline.

Chelsea and Monaco were both willing to sanction the move, but with the window closed Falcao looks on course to see out the season in west London.
