Chelsea set high transfer fee to fend off interest

David LuizChelsea have slapped a £45m price tag on David Luiz in a bid to keep interest from Barcelona at bay, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Spanish giants are believed to have made the big-haired central defender their number one target as the summer transfer window draws to a close, and are thought to be ready to spend big to convince him to swap London for Catalunya.

But, despite claims that returning Blues chief Jose Mourinho is unconvinced by the 26-year-old’s abilities, he is believed to be willing to battle to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Rumours had circulated that ‘The Special One’ could be willing to allow the eccentric defender to move on, as he looked to mould his inherited squad into one capable of challenging for the Premier League.

However, the Portuguese coach is said to see Luiz as somebody who can contribute, and is determined to stop Barca from snatching him away in the coming weeks.

To do so, Mourinho has placed a whopping £45m valuation on the ex-Benfica man in a bid to prevent a move.

This could deter the La Liga champions, who have already spent in excess of £50m to lure Neymar to the club from Santos.
