Everyone knows Chelsea are having a storming season under Antonio Conte, but perhaps the signs of the Blues’ rise to the status of England’s best side go further back than the Italian’s arrival.
No club in the 2016 calendar year has won more points than the Stamford Bridge side, counting the total of this season so far and the latter half of last season. The stat from Opta shows that Chelsea have won 73 points across the 12 months.
Stunningly they’ve won almost half of them, 33, in the last eleven games alone. That shows just how impressive and powerful their winning run has been.
Guus Hiddink deserves credit too for rallying the club in early 2016, after the departure of Mourinho, and preparing them to take a step to the next level.
They’re set to end 2016 at the top of the league and don’t look like relinquishing that spot any time soon, despite Liverpool closing the gap to 6 points on Monday night.
Time will tell whether or not 2017 is as successful for them as this one but Blues fans are certainly expectant and hopeful for the future.
