Chelsea set to rival Arsenal for striker

Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick AubameyangChelsea are set to battle Arsenal and Manchester City for the signature of Saint-Etienne forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Blues are believed to be planning an overhaul of their squad this summer, with Roman Abramovich likely to spend big in order to bring a new manager and playing staff.

Aubameyang has been in fine for Saint-Etienne this term, notching an impressive 16 goals in 27 Ligue 1 appearances.

This form has alerted a number of clubs from across Europe, but the Premier League is reportedly one of the Gabon international’s preferred destinations.

Arsenal had scouts watch the 23-year-old last week, whilst Manchester City are said to be long-term admirers of the attacker.

But, now Chelsea are now a third option, as they step up their transfer plans.

Auabmeyang can play as an orthodox striker or in a wide attacking role, which has alerted the Londoners, who are keen to add strength and depth to their squad.

Newcastle saw a bid for his services rejected over January, but Saint-Etienne are said to be willing to do business for around £12m this summer.

Aubameyang has been described as the ‘African Neymar’ in recent times, due to his eye for goal and technical ability.
