Chelsea set transfer sights on Benfica star

Lazar Markovic (Benfica)Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is planning a move for Benfica forward Lazar Markovic, according to reports from The Metro.

‘The Special One’ is believed to have watched the Serbian in international action last night – a game that the front-man started.

The Blues drafted in Samuel Eto’o over the summer and kept hold of Demba Ba and Fernando Torres, but Mourinho is still keen to add to his attacking options.

Wayne Rooney was believed to be the Londoners’ top target, but they were unable to convince Manchester United to sell.

While Markovic would not fit the tag of a marquee signing, the 19-year-old is believed to be seen as a real talent by the club.

The teenager only moved to Benfica earlier this summer, but has already made a major impact with two goals in as many appearances.

The Lisbon giants are aware that they may be unable to hold onto the talented Eastern European for too long, and could be tempted to make a quick profit.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata has revealed that he happy to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard has slipped out of the starting XI under Mourinho, which has led to rumours that he could be set to leave.

Chelsea fans, do you needs another striker? Or will Samuel Eto’o fire you to the title?
