Chelsea shot down over rival striker hopes

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney

Manchester United have refused to sell striker Wayne Rooney to any of their Premier League rivals, reports the Daily Mail.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had praised the England striker in his press conference on Monday, but United have stayed firm on their stance of not selling their star players to other Premier League teams.

Rooney revealed in April that he had handed in a transfer request, after stating he wanted to leave Old Trafford.

The forward is expected to hold talks with new manager David Moyes next month, as the pair, re-united from their Everton days, will discuss Rooney’s future at the club.

Although Mourinho was just talking about Rooney, it is understood that any official approach from Chelsea would instantly be turned away by the Old Trafford side.

PSG and Monaco have both been linked with the England striker as well, as have Arsenal.

Rooney has also spoken out about his concerns that he will not by forgiven by United fans, and is worried about the reaction he will get if he does stay with the Premier League champions.

Mourinho officially took charge of the Blues on Monday, when he was unveiled to the press in his first news conference for the club since he left Stamford Bridge in 2007.

Would Rooney be the right man for Chelsea? Should he stay at United?
