We may be just eight games into the new Premier League season, but that hasn't stopped the top flight's 20 clubs already looking at the new recruits they could be able to bring in during the upcoming transfer windows. Chelsea, of course, having been unable to sign players during the past transfer window, will be able to bring in fresh faces next summer.

Defensively, they have struggled so far this term, conceding 14 goals in those opening eight fixtures and, as such, a defender may be on the mind of Frank Lampard. According to 90min.com, that man is Villarreal's Pau Torres.

Although Arsenal are said to be leading the race due to Santi Cazorla, who used to be a Gunner, tipping the north London club off about his talent, the Blues are still listed with an interest along with Manchester City.

Even though so many big-name clubs being in pursuit, Chelsea are better off avoiding making a move for him. There is one reason in particular as to why that is: his lack of experience.

Who has been the most improved player in the EPL this season? Find out in the video below...

Despite already being well into his career, this is his first full season in La Liga. He has started all eight games so far this term for the Spanish outfit, but his latest appearance was just his ninth in the top tier. All of his previous playing time has either been in cup competitions or the lower divisions. In the top two leagues in the country he has played on just 48 occasions.

There have been some questions asked as to whether some of the youngsters Frank Lampard has used have the required know-how as it is, yet they have much more senior football under their belts. Fikayo Tomori, for example, is one year younger and has made 100 appearances in the professional game. With the team clearly struggling defensively, the last thing they need is another player who will take time to adapt to the English style of play, especially considering he is still clearly doing so in his own country. Only two sides have conceded more than Villarreal's 13 in La Liga this term.

The release clause, too, is just another reason as to why the Blues should allow their city rivals a clear path to the Spain U21 international.

The sum is said to be between €50m (£43m) and €75m (£65m), which is an awfully high price for a player with so much to learn. Save the money and spend it more wisely elsewhere. That's what Lampard and co should be thinking in regards to this one.
