Real Madrid are readying a £150m bid to make Eden Hazard the man to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the Daily Mail.
The Mail report that after losing Ronaldo to Juventus, the Champions League holders have identified Hazard as their top target to fill the Portuguese superstar’s boots.
They also report Hazard’s quotes about dreaming of Real Madrid but also reiterate that he has expressed his contentment at Stamford Bridge in the past.
The worry for Chelsea is that they have reportedly been unable to tie the Belgium captain down to a new £300,000 per week deal and he has just two years remaining on his current contract.
Chelsea obviously don’t want to lose Hazard but a £150m bid would show how serious Real are with their interest and if that turns his head, then they must plan for the worst.
Getting in a replacement is more important than having money sat in the bank and asking prices across Europe will go up as soon as the Blues are armed with £150m.
Therefore, it would make sense for Chelsea to do the Hazard deal and seal his replacement all in one go. That’s where Spanish prospect Marco Asensio, who has scored 21 goals in 91 games for Real, comes into play.
Chelsea should demand a deal more like £100m and Asensio to ensure that they are well reimbursed for Hazard and secure a replacement all in one go.
Time is of the essence for the Blues in a window where their business has moved very slowly and the deal makes sense for all parties.
