Reports claim Barcelona have made another huge bid for Willian, but Chelsea should tell them to forget the cash and just hand over Ousmane Dembele instead.
According to reports, Barcelona’s latest bid for Willian is a whopping £65m. That’s not a typo.
The Spanish champions reportedly want to build more first team options around Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to take some pressure off the ageing pair.
Maurizio Sarri wants to keep Willian, but the Brazilian is tempted by the thought of linking up the likes of Messi and compatriot Philippe Coutinho in Catalonia.
While £65m would be an astonishing amount to recoup for the Brazilian, that would still leave the Blues with a gaping hole on the wing, which is why they should demand Dembele instead.
In terms of raw ability, the 21 year-old is right up there alongside Kylian Mbappe, but a lengthy injury and competition for places has turned his dream move to Barcelona into a nightmare.
Multiple reports have suggested they could look to cut their losses with the wing wonderkid, and Sarri could turn him into a world superstar at Stamford Bridge.
You only have to look at Napoli’s swashbuckling front three last season to know what Sarri wants in attack. Pace, pace and more pace… and then a bit more pace. Dembele has this in abundance, but he also has the technique and talent to become a world beater with the right manager and system.
The 21 year-old only started 14 matches last season due to a lengthy injury layoff, but he still managed four goals and six assists.
He has some of the best close control while dribbling at speed of any player in the world, and you only need to watch him play to see why he’s drawn comparisons to the likes of Neymar and Eden Hazard.
He is completely two-footed, which makes him pretty much impossible to defend one-on-one, and his season training with the Catalan club will have done wonders for his link-up play, something Sarri will expect lots of from his attacking trio.
All in all, he is an excellent dribbler, one of the fastest players in world football, an excellent crosser, and his finishing is improving every season. The one area he lags behind the incredible Mbappe is consistency and decision-making, but those are creases that could be easily ironed out by Sarri.
So, Chelsea fans, would you back a swap deal for Dembele? How good would he be under Sarri? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
