Chelsea have received some brilliant news today as it seems that their transfer ban has been lifted and that means they will be able to sign players in the January transfer window.

Frank Lampard will naturally be pleased but, despite the fact his team is doing rather well at the moment, some reinforcements could definitely do him a world of good.

And granted, the Blues are currently sitting in the fourth spot in the Premier League table but in order to keep their hopes of European football alive, they will have to maintain their consistency going forward as well.

Interestingly enough, they were linked with one player back in the summer who could very well find his way back onto their radar in a couple of weeks time.

James Rodriguez of Real Madrid was supposedly observed by both Manchester United and Chelsea, as per Marca's (via Express) claims some months back, with the report suggesting he was available at a cut-price £36m.

And looking at the 28-year-old's season so far, he's definitely had his moments but was soon hampered by injuries and Zinedine Zidane's unfavourable decisions.

Where Are They Now: Chelsea edition. Do you know where all these Blues stars have ended up?

Rodriguez has scored and assisted once in his 422 minutes in nine games across all competitions and considering how he's not seen much of the pitch, he still managed to have a good impact on his team.

He averaged 1.3 shots and two key passes per game along with passing accuracy of 82.3% in La Liga.

The 28-year-old is also quite decent going the other way and offers the squad some defensive solidity when deployed in the middle of the park. This season, he has averaged 1.7 tackles and 0.4 interceptions with only 0.7 fouls made per game.

Of course, with more game time, he could definitely raise his quality and offer much more to Zidane and co.

In 2018/19, during his loan spell at Bayern Munich, he managed to tally seven goals and three assists in the Bundesliga, averaging 1.8 shots and 2.6 key passes per game.

By all standards, those are figures Lampard could definitely use in his squad.

Seeing how the transfer ban now won't be in the way, maybe Chelsea could go back and get their target this time around.
