Reports emanating from Spain suggest Barcelona have turned their attentions to David Luiz in their search for a central defender.
Barcelona are desperate to land a defensive reinforcement, having missed out on Thiago Silva last summer to Paris Saint-Germain, and now having been beaten by the Parisians to Marquinhos of Roma.
There has been speculation that Luiz has been listed for transfer by new boss Jose Mourinho.
Those rumours were only fuelled when it was reported earlier this week that the Brazilian international had been offered as part of a player-plus-cash bid for Wayne Rooney.
However, Chelsea have insisted that was not the case, and Mourinho later told the media that there was “no possibility that David Luiz, Juan Mata or Branislav Ivanovic” would be leaving the Londoners.
In other defensive transfer news regarding the Blues, promising 19-year-old Wallace will be sent out on loan, despite having performed well in pre-season for Chelsea.
“He’s a very good player but he won’t be staying with us because we have [Branislav] Ivanovic and [Cesar] Azpilicueta for the same position,” Mourinho said when asked about the Brazilian.
“We’ll get the best option for him, in Europe. We want him to adapt. He’s very mature for his age, comfortable with the ball. He has the quality of a Brazilian full-back, likes to attack and create.”
