The Chelsea defender was heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou, and recently revealed he turned down an offer to play with the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Neymar.
But Barcelona are expected to bid for the Brazilian defender again in January, as they look to test his desire to stay in London. The centre-back hasn’t played in the Premier League this season due to a hamstring injury, but he did feature for the Blues in the UEFA Super Cup defeat to Bayern Munich.
Sandro Rosell, Barcelona’s president, is still keen on bringing Luiz to La Liga, and admitted that their initial wage offer was part of the reason why a deal never happened.
“Barcelona should not pay more than what the coach thinks is the right price for the salary,” Rosell said.
“We did not recruit David Luiz because of a technical decision. But we will see what happens in January.”
The Spanish giants are looking to find a replacement for Carlos Puyol, who only played 13 matches last season. But the Catalan side are confident that the temptation of playing for a team with the recent success of Barca’s will be enough to see Luiz move to the Camp Nou.
Should Luiz join Barcelona in January? How important is he to the Blues? Is he Chelsea’s best centre-back?
