Chelsea stars not getting long-term deals

Chelsea midfielder Frank LampardChelsea veterans Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole will not be given the long-term new contracts they desire, according to The Sun.

The pair are in the last year of their existing deals at Stamford Bridge, and are free to sign pre-contract agreements with other clubs come January.

Despite this, the Champions League winners’ owner Roman Abramovich has made his intention to add youth to his ageing squad clear, with a number of younger players signed in the summer.

Former striker Didier Drogba left the west Londoners to sign for Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua last summer due to not being offered a long-term deal, and it appears that Lampard and Cole could face the same fate.

Both players are eager to tie up their future with at least two more years, but it is believed that Chelsea will only offer the pair a one-year extension, which could well be rejected.
