Chelsea still keen on transfer swoop

United's Wayne Rooney

Chelsea are still interested in signing Wayne Rooney, despite inquiring about Samuel Eto’o.

The Mirror are reporting that Jose Mourinho is still keen on the Manchester United forward, and the Portuguese manager will submit a £40million bid once his side have faced the Premier League champions.

The Blues boss has been heavily linked with Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o, who he managed during his time at Inter Milan. But Mourinho hasn’t given up on signing Rooney from his rivals:

“Now we are quiet, we have no contact. Nothing, nothing at all. Tuesday, we will have another feeling.” said Mourinho.

“The transfer window closes in one week or 10 days, or whatever. After 10 days, everything is over and, for five months, nobody speaks again about transfers. So I think if, in this moment, we want to upset them as some people were saying, now we’d be making a bid for the player every day – before the match.”

Whilst Eto’o has been made available by Russian side Anzhi, he will not be a replacement for Rooney, but purely an addition, according to Mourinho. The former Real Madrid boss is prepared to bid for Rooney again in January if United reject their third bid this summer, as he shows his desire to sign the English striker.

As well as chasing Eto’o and Rooney, the club are close to confirming a deal for Willian.

Do Chelsea fans want to see Rooney and Eto’o at the club? Do the Blues need the duo with Torres, Ba and Lukaku at Stamford Bridge?
