Chelsea struggler worth more than Ballon d’Or holder – experts

Chelsea’s out-of-form attacking midfielder Eden Hazard is worth more than reigning Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, according to the CIES Football Observatory.

The independent research group posted their findings early this week, ranking the top 100 players on the planet in terms of their actual worth in the transfer market.

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi and Neymar of Barcelona top the pile, but just behind them in third is Hazard, who is valued at £95.7m.

Ronaldo comes in fourth, with Spurs’ Harry Kane a shock fifth, ahead of the likes of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Luis Suarez.

CIES’s research takes into account form, age, position, contract length and the level of competition each individual’s club plays at.

Although Hazard’s start to the current season has been below par, he was named the PFA Player of the Year when Chelsea clinched the title last term.
