Chelsea fans paying attention to the transfer gossip on the weekend would have almost certainly subsequently kept an eye on Monaco vs. Lyon on Sunday night. Why? Well, the Blues have been aligned with the home side’s all-action midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko (as per The Times) as they lay their post-Oscar plans down – the Brazilian is supposedly on his way to Chinese side Shanghai SIPG for a baffling £60m fee.
And those casting an eye over to Ligue 1 would not have been disappointed by the 22-year-old despite Monaco slipping to defeat, with the Frenchman’s putting in a truly excellent performance.
Even though Lyon triumphed 1-3, Bakayoko was – according to WhoScored (below) – Man of the Match, with his performance epitomising his all-action game. The Monaco ace had 78 touches of the ball, made 53 passes, won seven aerial duels and launched himself into six tackles, while making three dribbles and scoring his side’s only goal.

This outing certainly hints that he has what it takes to function as one of Antonio Conte’s two central midfielders, with his sheer physicality matching that of Nemanja Matic, while he has the technical prowess to bring some of the qualities Cesc Fabregas possesses to the table.
