Chelsea target England international to solve summer issue

Chelsea are hopeful they can persuade Rob Green to swap first-team action at QPR for a role as Thibaut Courtois’ back-up this summer, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Blues look set to lose current stand-in goalkeeper Petr Cech at the end of the season, with the experienced Czech Republic international having revealed that he will leave if he’s not guaranteed a starting role.

And with Courtois’ showings consistently impressive since his return to Stamford Bridge, it looks unlikely the situation will change.

With Mark Schwarzer having been offloaded in January, Jose Mourinho will need another goalie as back-up for his Belgian star, and Green is seen as an option.

The QPR glovesman has been in impressive form for the relegation threatened Londoners this term, and has even been re-called to the England side for the upcoming clashes with Lithuania and Italy.

The Super Hoops are unlikely to be in a strong position to keep their man if they go down and may even lose him if they stay up, with the 35-year-old set to enter the final year of his contract this summer.
