Chelsea target Hector’s 2016/17 in numbers

Chelsea’ change to a 3-4-3 formation has been talked about to the point that there’s little left to say. We’ll gloss over the details and that run of wins, and instead look ahead to the players Antonio Conte may want to recruit to hone the system, which is seemingly a discussion being had behind the scenes in west London.

Indeed, The Times have claimed that wing-backs are the hot topic at Stamford Bridge, with FC Koln’s Jonas Hector being eyed as a potential addition to keep Marcos Alonso on his toes on the left flank, or perhaps replace the Spaniard altogether.

And a quick glance at his numbers from the season so far reveal why he’s an exciting prospect for Blues fans…

The German has been solid this season, making 43 tackles and 39 interceptions in 16 Bundesliga outings, but he also, crucially for a wing-back berth, contributes at the other end of the pitch, with 23 key passes.
