AC Milan are set to rival Chelsea for the signature of Swiss defender Ricardo Rodriguez, but both clubs have been told they will have to wait until the summer to make an offer to lure him away from German club Wolfsburg, according to talkSPORT.
Jose Mourinho is understood to have identified Rodriguez as the long term replacement for Ashley Cole.
The 21-year-old has featured in all of Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga matches this season, and has established himself as one of the most exciting young full backs in Europe.
Milan are also in the market for a new left back, and are set to rival the Blues for his signature.
And Rodriguez’s representative Gianluca Di Domenico admits he is aware of the interest from the San Siro club, but admits there are a host of top clubs queuing up for his signature.
He told Calciomercatonews: “In January, he will not move from Wolfsburg because the club does not want to sell as they absolutely want to get into the Champions League.
“Maybe after the World Cup in June but it will not be easy for Milan as many clubs are interested in him.”
Rodriguez has already been capped 19 times for Switzerland, and has flourished in the Bundesliga since making the move from FC Zurich in 2012.
