Chelsea to kick off Euro nightmare rebuild with £18m ace

Chelsea are set to kick off their summer transfer plans with a move for Douglas Costa, with reports from The Sun claiming that the attacking midfielder has agreed in principle to join the club in an £18m deal from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Blues slipped out of the Champions League last week with a last-16 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Jose Mourinho’s side were expected to dispatch of the Frenchmen after carrying an away goal lead into the Stamford Bridge tie, but the Parisians netted twice in west London – once via ex-Chelsea man David Luiz – to secure their passage into the quarter-finals.

The loss is believed to have come as a major blow to ‘Mou’ who is keen to rebuild his squad, even though the Premier League title looks set to follow the League Cup to the Bridge.

Costa is seen as a wise addition, and reports claim that an approach has been made to the silky Brazilian, who is keen to join the club.

A move away from Shakhtar and the turbulent time in Ukraine appeals to the player, who is valued at £18m.
