Chelsea will have scouts keeping a close eye on £15m-rated Brazilian starlet Thiago Maia at the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro over the coming weeks, according to reports from the Mirror.

The 19-year-old plays his club football with Santos in his homeland, where he features regularly in the same XI as talented young striker, Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa.

Maia is likely to feature heavily for the Selecao’s U-23s at the Olympics over the next few weeks, and reports claim that Chelsea will be monitoring his progress closely.

It’s understood that his agent, Kia Joorabchian, had already been in contact with the London club about their interest in the teenager, who is rated highly in his homeland.

A defensive midfielder, Maia has been a regular in the Santos team for the last two seasons, despite his age, and has earned much praise for his composure and reading of the game.
