Chelsea to push for 29-goal Atletico star despite no Champions League football

Chelsea are stepping up their chase for Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann, despite their lack of Champions League football next season, Mirror reports.

Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move away from the Vicente Calderon in the past, with the likes of some of Europe’s biggest clubs having been aligned with his signature.

However, it is the Blues that have been constantly mentioned in this speculation, with earlier reports suggesting that the La Liga giants could agree to a swap deal involving Diego Costa.

But with Costa now set to be part of incoming boss Antonio Conte’s plans, the Chelsea hierarchy are desperate to lure over Griezmann and are prepared to offer a lucrative contract to the ex-Malaga star.

Griezmann has been in brilliant form this term for Atletico, helping the club knock European champions Barcelona out of the Champions League with a brace during the quarter-finals.

The 25-year-old has made 46 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring 29 goals.
