Chelsea to up offer for English stopper

John Ruddy (Norwich)Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ready to increase his initial £5million offer for Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

‘The Special One’ is believed to rate the England international highly, and is keen to keep current number one Petr Cech on his toes.

After agreeing to loan Thibaut Courtois to Atletico Madrid once again, the Portuguese coach will have to dip into the transfer market to do so, with former back-up man Ross Turnbull having been released.

Ruddy is particularly appealing, with the Blues having one eye on the Premier League’s ‘home grown’ rules.

Chelsea’s original £5m offer was quickly shot down, but Mourinho is willing to up his bid to force through a deal.

Norwich would do business for around £10m, but it’s unclear as to whether the Londoners are willing to go that high.

Ruddy impressed in the Canaries’ first season back in the top flight, but struggled for game time last term with a long-term thigh injury leaving him on the sidelines.

Despite this, manager Chris Hughton still values him highly.

“We see very much John’s future here,” Hughton said.

Chelsea also released third choice stopper Hilario, but they could offer him another deal to keep him for another season.

Chelsea fans, would John Ruddy keep Petr Cech on his toes?
