Chelsea tracking Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer

As reported by ESPN, Chelsea are interested in bringing Fenerbahce’s star defender to Stamford Bridge, perhaps as soon as January.

What’s the word?

Despite conceding less goals than any other team in the Premier League, it seems Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is looking to strengthen that area further. A scary prospect for other teams in the division!

ESPN say that Chelsea have been closely monitoring Fenerbahce’s Simon Kjaer but have as yet not tabled a bid for the defender.

Any deal to bring the Danish international would likely cost over £12.5m according to the outlet. Such a fee would likely not be a problem given their spending power.

Why Kjaer?

The Danish international has been in exceptional form for Fenerbahce this season, recently being named in UEFA’s team of the Europa League Group Stage alongside Virgil van Dijk. He helps his side to to the top of Group A in the competition ahead of Manchester United.

He has vast experience across the continent enjoying spells in Turkey, France, Germany, Denmark and Italy. It’s experience that would serve Chelsea well with the likes of John Terry seemingly unable to find his way into Conte’s plans.

He’s a star at international level too, winning 59 caps since he made his debut for Denmark in 2009.

He fits the bill for many Premier League clubs and if Chelsea can beat their rivals to the punch and bring him to England then he’d be a serious advantage in the title race.
