Chelsea Transfer Roundup: Lampard update, Kovacic joins, defender leaves for Bristol City

The appointment of a new manager at Chelsea edges closer and closer, with more updates incoming. Today’s Blues transfer roundup includes news on the expected arrival of the next boss, the signing of a Real Madrid star and the confirmed exit of a 26-year-old defender.

Lampard announcement imminent

According to Goal.com’s Chelsea correspondent Nizaar Kinsella, Frank Lampard has agreed a contract with the Stamford Bridge outfit to become their new manager. Chelsea will buy out the last two years of Lampard’s Derby contract, which will cost £4m, with an announcement expected imminently.

Kovacic signs permanently

Following last season’s loan spell, it was confirmed on Monday that Mateo Kovacic has joined Chelsea from Real Madrid on a permanent contract. The west London side have reportedly paid €45m (£40.3m) for the Croatian.

Kalas joins Bristol

After much speculation prior, it was also confirmed on Monday that Tomas Kalas has officially joined Bristol City. The Robins have paid a club-record fee for the 26-year-old defender, who made just four appearances in nine years with the Premier League side.
