According to the Sun, Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira was the only other serious candidate Chelsea looked at before deciding on Lampard. Pereira was formerly boss of Porto and Fenerbahce, and is currently with Shanghai SIPG.
Kovacic future still up in the air
Chelsea have less than a week to decide whether they want to keep Mateo Kovacic, according to Goal.com. As of yet, no decision has been made in regards to the Croatian’s future by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

The Sheffield Star is reporting that Chelsea and Sheffield Wednesday remain in dialogue in regards to Michael Hector. The Jamaican spent last year on loan with the Owls, and Wednesday have not given up hope of re-signing him.
