Chelsea want shock move for Man City freebie

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is considering a shock move to snap up Micah Richards from Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to reports from The Guardian.

The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Fiorentina, where he is getting his career back on track after an injury ravaged few years at the Etihad Stadium.

But with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, it’s uncertain as to whether or not the burley defender will ever return to City.

La Viola have already offered Richards a long-term deal to stay in Florence, but the player himself could be tempted by a return to the Premier League as he looks to revive his England career.

And Mourinho is tempted to draft in the versatile ace for free.

The Portuguese coach tried to sign Richards during his first spell at Chelsea and again while at Real Madrid in 2012, and is known to be a massive fan of the robust enforcer.

Liverpool are also keen as they plot for life after Glen Johnson – who might leave Anfield on a free transfer in six months’ time – while Arsenal are also long-term admirers.

City are said to be open to keeping their man to help comply with home grown player counts, but Richards himself has shown a reluctance to sign a new deal.
