According to London Football News, Leeds United are likely to be interested in Chelsea's Billy Gilmour should he be made available for a loan move.

What's the story?

The 18-year-old signed for the Blues in 2017 from Rangers for a fee of £500,000. This season, he made his Premier League debut against Sheffield United, and also his full debut against Grimsby Town in the League Cup.

Those remain his only two appearances so far though.

Frank Lampard previously refused to send Gilmour out on loan during the summer but if he continues to sit on the bench, he could well make a move in January, with Leeds and Nottingham Forest monitoring his situation.

Would develop under Bielsa

Lampard is revolutionising Chelsea with the use of several of the club's younger players. Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori have been the main beneficiaries so far, with all three recently having been called up to Gareth Southgate's England squad.

However, that does not mean that the former Derby County boss can play every youngster at his disposal on a regular basis.

Whilst Gilmour should receive playing time throughout the rest of the campaign, he is unlikely to feature as much as he would at a Championship side, for example. As such, a short-term spell in Yorkshire would not necessarily be a bad idea, especially to play under Marcelo Bielsa.

With close to 30 years of experience in management, the 64-year-old has coached some top-quality midfielders.

Javi Martinez, for example, was signed by Bayern Munich after having impressed for Bielsa's Athletic Bilbao, with the Bavarian giants parting with £31.6m, which at the time was a club-record fee.

He also gave Arturo Vidal his Chile debut in 2007, with the now Barcelona player having made 113 appearances - and counting - for his country.

Ander Herrera is another who flourished under the Argentinian's reign in Bilbao, with Manchester United being convinced in 2014 to spend £28.8m on him following his impressive displays.

And Esteban Cambiasso is another to whom Bielsa gave his maiden international cap whilst he was boss of the Albiceleste. He would go on to win 22 trophies and played a big role in the successes of both Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

The Whites' style of play would also help the Scotland U21 international develop, as well. Gilmour is a player who is comfortable in possession and likes to pass the ball, as his 92.7% pass accuracy showed against the Mariners in the League Cup earlier this term.

That fits in perfectly with Bielsa's philosophy, his Leeds side having the second-highest possession in the second tier with an average of over 60%. Given the responsibility of keeping the play ticking in the middle of the park, one can only imagine that the teenager would improve.

There would be benefits to staying with Chelsea, such as playing alongside the likes of Jorginho, at least in training. But the Argentine's track history suggests a few months with Bielsa could do him the world of good.

Should he be made available for loan, the Blues should look to push him in the direction of Elland Road.
