The USA have confirmed that Christian Pulisic will not be in the squad for their Nations League matches against Canada and Cuba.

What's the story?

The 21-year-old former Borussia Dortmund ace is one of his country's star players. He has already made 34 appearances for the Stars and Stripes, and has netted on 14 occasions for them. There is hope that he can become a superstar.

However, he will not be part of the squad for their upcoming games after he picked up an injury during Chelsea's 2-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Perfect timing for a break

After a difficult start to the campaign during which questions were asked about whether he would be able to adapt to the Premier League, Pulisic is now beginning to show exactly why the Blues parted with £58m for his services.

He has scored five goals in his last three league games, which he can add to the six assists he has picked up in all competitions.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are currently enjoying a rich vein of form. They have won their last six games in the Premier League, as well as their last seven away fixtures in all competitions, and that has translated to third spot in England's top tier. They are even ahead of Manchester City by one point.

A trip to the Etihad Stadium to face the Citizens is next up for the Blues, and that will start off an important run that could define their season. They will play two Champions League matches, against Valencia and Lille, in the next six games, with league clashes against West Ham, Aston Villa and Everton to come as well. Before the calendar year is out, they will also face both Tottenham and Arsenal in London derbies.

As such, Pulisic's absence from his national side comes at the perfect time. Not only only will it allow him to rest over the next two weeks, but it also avoids him travelling so far to represent his nation.

With so many important games to come in the next few months, Lampard will need Pulisic and his other top performers at their very best.

This, therefore, is a boost to Chelsea in the long-term.
