Ruben Loftus-Cheek has heaped praise on John Terry for the “help” and “advice” he gives all young players breaking through at Chelsea.

What’s the story?

Speaking as part of a day in the life video of FIFA 17 The Journey protagonist Alex Hunter at Chelsea, Loftus-Cheek took time out to praise Terry for his impact on young stars coming through the ranks at the London club.

The centre-back is the Blues’ most senior player and first-team captain and boasts a fantastic career that has seen him lift numerous Premier league titles as well as both the Champions League and Europa League.

Talking about what it’s like to come through as a youth player, Loftus-Cheek was full of praise for Terry:

“It’s important to have senior players when you’re coming through, especially when you start training with the first team.

“We’re lucky with John Terry who gives so much help, advice.

“He’s there for you if you want to ask him anything, if you’re not sure about anything, so for me he was a massive help.

“Also the other players and just training with them, seeing how they act around the place and all of them are good role models.”

Terry was also on camera, and he had his say on what it’s like now for young players coming up from academy football:

“I actually think it’s harder nowadays for young players to come through.

“When I look back to the era when I came through the ranks at Chelsea, you had three or four players in your position, whereas nowadays there is so much money in the game and there are youngsters that have been brought in from all over the world in their position that they are fighting against.

“The quality in the first-team, for me, makes it more difficult for them to break through too."

The video…

Both Loftus-Cheek and Terry were speaking as part of an EA SPORTS video based on seeing a day’s training through the eyes of Hunter at Chelsea’s Cobham base.

The FIFA 17 The Journey star spent some time with Loftus-Cheek before being called aside by Antonio Conte and told that he’d be training with the first-team.

When he got out on the pitch he was on a trademark tough challenge from Terry, illustrating what it must be like for an emerging talent heading into battle with some of the game’s top stars.
