Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, John Hartson has said that Mason Mount is more deserving of his place on the final Golden Boy shortlist than Matteo Guendouzi.

The Arsenal youngster has become one of the first names on the team sheet at the Emirates Stadium, having started all eight Premier League games under Unai Emery so far this campaign. However, 20-year-old Mount has been just as important, if not more than, for his Chelsea side. He has also been in the starting XI for all of their league games, scoring four goals in the process, whilst he even earned his maiden England start against the Czech Republic.

This has impressed 44-year-old Hartson, and he believes the Blues midfielder has done more to get into the final 20 than his French counterpart.

He said, "I think Mason Mount has done more. I like Guendouzi, I think he's looked a lot more focused this season and he's rose to the occasion.

"I don't want to be too critical, and good luck to him, but if you look at the way Mount has played over the last few games, the way he has started at Chelsea and how Frank Lampard is pushing him on and is nurturing him, he's done more."

As a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Gunners, Guendouzi has done very well so far this term. But Mount has been emblematic of the Stamford Bridge outfit's concentration on youth, and has been one of the team's star players already. He has waited patiently for his chance since he joined the club as an eight-year-old and has grabbed it with both hands. The way he has performed has been outstanding, and he deserves all of the praise he gets.

It is not to say that the former Lorient man has not performed admirably also, but his impact has arguably not been as great as the former Derby County loanee. As such, that should be reflected when the final results are revealed once the voting has concluded.
