N'Golo Kante had a difficult year last season under Maurizio Sarri.

The Italian, who has now moved on to Juventus, played a style based around possession, and saw no use for the France international in his habitual defensive-midfield position. Instead, Kante was played further up the field in a more attacking role.

It was the 28-year-old's worst season since moving to the Premier League in 2015, although he did register four goals and as many assists.

However, it looks like he could soon be back to his best if his performance in the UEFA Super Cup final against Liverpool is anything to go by, and his former boss may have had an influence on his display.

From a defensive point of view, the former Leicester City midfielder displayed the qualities for which he is best known. Only Pedro made more than his four successful tackles, and he often found himself in good positions to provide cover for the Blues' backline.

Going forward though, he was one of Frank Lampard's most influential players. No player on the pitch even came close to the eight dribbles he completed during the 120 minutes. In fact, no-one else racked up more than four. When you consider some of the attacking talent on field, such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Pedro and Christian Pulisic, that is no mean feat.

In regards to chances created, he was once again amongst the top performers, with only Pedro playing more than his four key passes. And again, he was in possession more than most of his teammates, making 102 touches throughout.

Kante was a menace all over the pitch, and it is even more impressive when you consider he apparently picked up a small injury against Manchester United on Sunday.

And, whilst Sarri may have been persistently questioned over his use of the Blues star, his influence was clear to see in Istanbul, and he may just have made him into a more complete player.
