Tammy Abraham has identified Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as one of his biggest footballing idols in a video posted on Chelsea’s Twitter page.
Abraham is rapidly becoming a sensation at Stamford Bridge alongside a plethora of fellow academy graduates.
Frank Lampard’s integration of youth has been widely praised and the rewards have manifested in a series of eye-catching collective and individual displays.
It seems everyone is interested in the next generation of Chelsea talent, and Abraham is firmly a part of that contingent after scoring ten goals in 12 Premier League appearances this season.
And Chelsea’s official Twitter page has provided a video clip to meet the demand for Abraham related content in which the striker confirms Henry is his favourite sports star of the past.
“Favourite sports star of the past would have to be Thierry Henry.
“He was my idol growing up, one of my biggest idols.
“I loved his style, I loved the way he played, I loved the way he carried himself. His goal celebrations as well were cool.
“I’ve always looked up to him.”
The 22-year-old is certainly not alone.
For an entire generation of aspiring young footballers, Henry embodies the pinnacle of stylish, electric attacking play.
As Abraham alludes to, there was a level of panache to Henry’s technique that made him one of the coolest and most infectious players on the planet in his prime.
It’s far too early to suggest that Chelsea’s rising star could emulate anything like the level of success the Frenchman enjoyed in north London, but fans will certainly be expecting big things from him following his prolific opening to the campaign.
Talismanic figures like Henry only come around a handful of times in a generation and it’s hardly any surprise to hear that he has made a profound impact on the England international.
